The Power of Rest: Why Hermit Mode Is Essential Before the New Year

As we close out December and move toward the new year, there’s a collective feeling in the air that’s hard to ignore. Things feel heavier. Faster. More intense. And no, you’re not imagining it.

In a recent episode of Ascension With Vii, I shared an important message that deserves to live beyond audio: this season is not for pushing, it’s for resting.

If you’ve been feeling exhausted, mentally foggy, emotionally tender, or spiritually stretched thin, this post is your permission slip to stop pretending you’re fine and start listening to what your body, mind, and soul are asking for.

Why December–January Feels So Heavy (And Why That’s Not a Bad Thing)

The energetic window between late December and early February is often a deep purge cycle. It isn’t just emotional, though; it’s happening on multiple levels:

  • Mental
  • Emotional
  • Physical
  • Energetic
  • Spiritual
  • Even cellular / molecular

Old patterns, unresolved emotions, outdated relationships, and unprocessed experiences are surfacing, not to punish you, but to be released.

The problem is…
Most people try to power through this phase like it’s business as usual.

Spoiler alert: that’s how burnout happens.

Rest Is Not Laziness, It’s Integration, it’s crucial

Let’s be blunt: Earth culture has a very unhealthy relationship with rest.

We’re taught that:

  • Rest = weakness
  • Stillness = unproductive
  • Solitude = antisocial

That mindset is wrecking people.

Burnout isn’t a badge of honor. It’s a warning sign.

Rest is where:

  • Healing integrates
  • Lessons settle
  • Clarity emerges
  • Nervous systems reset

If you don’t create space to process what you’ve lived through this year, it doesn’t magically disappear; it stacks. Eventually, it erupts as anxiety, depression, physical illness, emotional outbursts, or total shutdown.

Why Solitude Is Necessary (Especially Right Now)

You cannot hear yourself when the world is constantly yelling.

Between:

  • Social media
  • Family obligations
  • Holiday events
  • Constant communication
  • External opinions

…there’s no room left for your own voice.

Solitude allows you to:

  • Reflect on the year honestly
  • Take inventory of relationships
  • Process what helped you vs. what drained you
  • Hear your inner truth
  • Reconnect with God / Source / Universe
  • Regulate your energy

This doesn’t mean disappearing for weeks. Even small pockets of intentional alone time matter.

You’re Allowed to Cancel, Pull Back, and Say No

Read this twice:

You do not owe access to people when your energy is depleted.

If you:

  • Don’t have the emotional bandwidth to talk
  • Feel overstimulated or overwhelmed
  • Need quiet instead of conversation
  • Need rest instead of productivity

Then cancel the plans.
Delay the conversation.
Stay home.
Log off.

Your well-being is more important than being “available.”

Before You Manifest Anything New, Build a Relationship With Yourself

Everyone loves talking about manifesting relationships, abundance, and alignment in the new year.

Here’s the part most people skip:

Your external relationships will only be as healthy as your internal one.

Before focusing on:

  • Romantic partnerships
  • Friendships
  • Business collaborations

You need to establish:

  • Trust with yourself
  • Confidence in your inner voice
  • Security in your decisions

When you stop outsourcing your truth and start asking:

  • What do I think?
  • How do I feel?
  • What feels aligned to me?

Your self-trust skyrockets.
And guess what happens next?

You naturally attract people who reflect that same trust, respect, and alignment.

What Hermit Mode Can Look Like (Without Guilt)

Hermit mode doesn’t have to be dramatic. It can be simple:

  • Staying in instead of going out
  • Taking breaks from social media
  • Journaling or reflecting quietly
  • Spending time alone without distractions
  • Saying “I’ll get back to you when I have the energy”
  • Choosing peace over performance

And no, you’re not dull, antisocial, or failing at life for doing this.

You’re regulating. You’re healing. You’re integrating.

Final Reminder as We Enter the New Year

People are burning out fast because they never stop.
Rest is not optional; it is essential.

Make this season about:

  • You
  • Your healing
  • Your nervous system
  • Your inner world

And if you don’t hear from me again until the new year, don’t panic. I’ll be doing exactly what I’m encouraging you to do, resting, reflecting, and honoring my own energy.

Take care of yourself.
Choose peace.
The rest will follow.
